Peter M. De Jonge

Mr. de Jonge earned his
B.S. degree in Economics and Philosophy (magna cum laude) from Queens
College in New York. Mr. de Jonge has the unusual distinction of having
been concurrently enrolled in both a Masters degree program in tax
accounting and in Law School-- receiving both his M.Pr.A. in Taxation
and J.D. from the University of Utah.
While pursuing these
degrees, he worked in the legal department of an insurance/financial
services company doing tax, licensing, and mergers/acquisitions
work. Mr. de Jonge’s academic interests also led him to a
third graduate course of study in instrumentation physics.
Mr.
de Jonge started his legal career in a commercial litigation practice
and argued and won a case before the Utah Supreme Court. His
desire to capitalize on his diverse academic background and interests
led him to explore intellectual property law, and in 1998 he joined
Thorpe North and Western.
At
TNW, Mr. de Jonge’s practice focuses on trademark prosecution,
intellectual property licensing, intellectual property litigation,
intellectual property due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, and
mechanical and business method patents. He also coordinates
TNW’s domestic and international trademark prosecution group.
Mr.
de Jonge has been a guest speaker at the University of Utah’s Graduate
School of Business, speaking on intellectual property issues.
He is a member of the Mountain West Venture Group, and a board member
of the Wasatch Chapter of The Entrepreneurship Institute.
Mr.
de Jonge is admitted to the Utah State Bar (member Intellectual
Property Section) and is registered to practice before the U.S.
District Court, District of Utah, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
